Come out to College Radio Day this Friday

College Radio Day is an international event that NSU takes part in which gives voice to not just college radio stations, but smaller, lesser-known artists around the world. College Radio Day is set to take place from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 7.  NSU’s RadioX is celebrating all day outside of the Rosenthal building.  

 This year’s topic is “voices for peace.” There will be a photobooth, music and live radio all day. Jomari Chao, RadioX station manager, believes the significance of the day is tied to the unity it represents.  

 “It is important because it unites all college radio stations regardless of where in the world you are,” said Chao. “For example, when you get the email confirmation, they give you instructions in English, Spanish and French. That’s how you know it’s a very worldly event.”  

 For every hour of the day until 5 p.m., there is going to be a live segment hosted by a RadioX staff member or volunteer DJ. To start the day off, Chao will host a segment about reggaeton. Some of the other segments will be about food, different cultures, and movies, but they all connect back to peace. 

 Chao hopes to leave a lasting legacy with this year’s College Radio Day.  

 “It is the last college radio day for our graduating seniors,” said Chao. “It’s a momentous event because it is a tradition that has gone on long before we arrived at NSU and hopefully will be here when we are gone.”
